Wayne A. Madden
Auburn, Indiana, USA
INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT
I grew up
in Auburn and I wanted to give back to my community. My wife’s father
had been president of the Lions club in nearby Waterloo. I had seen
Lions working projects at fairs or selling fruit on the street. I knew
they had a scholarship program for high school students every year.
That was the extent of my knowledge. In 1984, when a letter from the
Auburn Lions came in the mail asking me to join, I quickly did.
A defining
“Lion” moment for me was on an eyeglass mission trip to Honduras in
1995. A young man with a disability slowly made his way to the eyeglass
tent. He asked if I had a pair of sunglasses. He tried a pair and got
a big smile on his face. When you see service actually do something for
somebody, you really become a Lion. Another highlight of my Lions
service was bringing Operation Kid Sight to Indiana.
As
International President, I will keep service in the forefront. No child
should go to bed hungry. No one should suffer from preventable
blindness. In a world of service, that should never happen.

WILLIAM P. KELLY
Rumford, RI.
DISTRICT GOVERNOR
Our call
to service requires dedication and effort on the part of all RI Lions.
Our District needs to continue to grow so that we can serve more people
in more areas. We have several clubs facing declining membership
levels. We need to work together to strengthen these clubs and we need
new clubs in areas that have needs but no Lions.
This has
been and will again be our task for 2012-13 and beyond. We have 33
clubs but we need a minimum of 35 to remain a viable District.
Help us
accomplish these objectives. Attend a Global Membership Training
session to learn how to recruit. Take the training to become a Guiding
Lion. Then get involved with the District’s recruiting and Guiding Lion
efforts.
With more
members, we will be able to say that “We Serve” more communities every
day.
